TRUMPET

Mark grew up in Texas and took up the trumpet in Texas-sized style.  In high school, he was selected as a member of the Texas All-State Band and Orchestra.  He attended the nation's second-largest music school at the University of North Texas.

While attending college, he played in Latin, rock, and big bands around the Dallas area.  His most memorable gig was as a member of the Dallas Cowboy Stadium Band, a five-year stint that enabled him to perfect his skills at accompanying the bump-and-grind routines of the famous Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders.

Before moving to Southern California, Mark spent two years peforming on cruise ships. He now lives in Riverside with his band director wife, Anne, and their daughter Emily, a promising 11-year-old pianist. He teaches second grade at Foothill Elementary in Corona.

TROMBONE

Dan, a native of Denver, grew up in household where learning to play a musical instrument was mandatory. Sadly (or maybe not), no composer has ever written a piece for cello, viola, oboe, bassoon and trombone.

He played in all-city and all-state bands and orchestras and, after leaving Colorado, joined the Leland Stanford University Marching Band. He was never suspended.

A newspaper columnist by day,  Dan enjoys reading,  herding sheep with Seymour, his Old English sheepdog, writing children's books and avoiding his wife's home improvement projects. He plays in a community college jazz band and whistles.

He plays it to this day.

Curtiss received Bachelor’s degrees in Tuba Performance and Music Education from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff.  While there, he became principal tubist for the NAU Wind Symphony under Dr. Patricia Hoy.  He studied under Dr. Pete Vivona of the Kai Winding Septet, and Dr. Blase Scarnatti, student of Arnold Jacobs.  He also performed with the Flagstaff Symphony, the Grand Canyon Brass, the Phi Mu Alpha Dixieland Band and many other ensembles.  He gave two complete recitals in partial fulfillment of his NAU degrees.
